GRAND HOCHE AND GUGLIA D’HARBOUR FROM CHATEAU BEAULARD

The long but pleasant excursion go to one of the most known mountains of the High Susa Valley, admired for the verticality of its northern wall: take care at the itinerary near the Passo of Grand Hoche, where there are some exposed sections particularly crumbling and wild. The excursion is not recommended in case of snow or low visibility.

Access. Arrived in Chateau Beaulard turn right and reach the yard upon the village.

Path . From Chateau Beaulard, follow the signs to Guido Rey Refuge and Grand Hoche. The steep path through forest of coniferous trees go straight to the Refuge. From here follow the ancient ski road in south direction looking at the Guglia d’Arbour and its base. Cross the path coming up from Beaulard,well marked (segnavia 702), and continue it on the left, following east direction cross the slopes of the massif and reach the base of the Rocher de la Garde. This is the most dangerous part of the itinerary where it is necessary to take care at some exposed and crumbling parts, it arrive at 2400 m high, where the path go west until the Clotesse and join the Passo della Grand Hoche (2477 m) and the bivacco Blanchetti of Passo dell’Orso ( inaccessible from Agust 2019 ). Go up the meadows to continue the path, it begin steeper and dangerous and reach the top of the heap of the Grand Hoche  (2760 m), from where the landscape on the High Susa Valley, and the French mountains is fantastic. In a short time from this point it is possible to reach the Punta Arbour (2803 m).
