BORELLO LAKE OR OULX POND

The reserve of Stagno di Oulx, known as Lago Borello, is located not far away from via Pellousieres, near by the railway station and the school „Des Ambrois”. The lake is an ancient site of exacavation materials for the construction of Frejus tunnel in 1861. The Oulx Pond or Lake is not so big but important in the Alps area from the point of view of vegetation and animals species: between them the purple moor grass, the Korean pickled peel garlic, the common rush, the rare white clawed crayfish, the dragon fly and lots of water birds. In the last years of the XIX century there was also a little ice production : the “Igloo” is illustrated on the informations boards on the lake path. The Pond charm is different in every season : the wood behind is composed by birches, scotch pines, creeping willows and breaking bucktorn, the lake is white and icy on winter time and shined by the reflections of the sun in summertime. Situated in the middle of the town, it has a path along adapted for people with disability of for families with pushchair
